Yummy? Not!

The Krispy Kreme franchise move comes as the UAE works on strategies to combat mounting levels of obesity in the region. In the United Arab Emirates, 74% of women are obese or overweight according to a 2005 report by the International Obesity Task Force, a London-based think tank.

More on this from ArabianBusiness magazine here.

Not brilliant timing for KrispyKreme, perhaps. But in a funny way the launch is helping to throw the media spotlight on the local obesity problem. It's the kids I feel most sorry for. Another commentator has pointed to the fact that so many children here are brought up by maids and nannies, rather than their mothers, that expecting 'healthy diet' to figure highly in the child carer's priorities is delusional.

So very, very sad.
