There are more and more of us whose Dirham incomes no longer permit us the luxury of escaping to more temperate climes where Euros or Pounds prevail to avoid the extremes of the Sandlands summer.
Many of us, I have observed, are stupid enough to believe that because it is summer we should dress with summery abandon. It is, after all, in the mid-forties (Celsius) outside and the metrics are galloping daily further and further up the discomfort scale.
But I have now learned, and the knowledge comes on day four of a filthy, streaming, eye-watering cold, that it more prudent to dress for the inside temperatures you will encounter. In the office, the shopping mall, the restaurant, the hotel lobby you will during this season be blasted by absolutely f****** frigid air which will chill you as reliably as an English November. Air conditioning is designed to deliver a level of comfort (commonly construed as a room temperature between 20 and 22 degrees), not to promote the sales of Aspirin+C!
Sniff!
