Happy sentimental

I agree with the Guardian's Jemima Kiss (on most things, come to think of it) that one of the best Christmas pop songs ever was George Michael's Last Christmas. Although it came out in 1984 it was still getting seasonal heavy rotation on the German videoclip channels during the 1988 holiday season. For my wife and I it was particularly Christmassy since we spent the holidays in those days in a snowy Swiss valley high in the Engadin. And that year, 1988, a wonderful gift had arrived a couple of months earlier; she's nineteen now but whenever I hear the song she's just a little baby again.
