Some bad news, some great news

I found the wonderful cartoon on a blog in Arabic, surely a Sandlander lamenting the loss of connectivity across the Middle East and into India. I commiserate, recalling the frustration I felt when a sub-sea cable in the Indian Ocean also meant days of sludge-slow surfing. Incidentally, it is a very recent further development of the Blogger platform that now enables blogs to be created in Arabic, Farsi and... oh, anotherregional language written right to left... Yes.

And I wonder whose advertising message was, thanks to the Shamal, was Gone With The Wind?

The good news for Dubai is, of course, the appointment of the bright and personable Sheikh
Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum as Crown Prince of the Emirate. At twenty-five, with Sandhurst and the London School of Economics behind him, we can expect of him the talent and energy it will need to keep Dubai on the right course, internet crashes and storm winds notwithstanding.
