In just over a week's time Abu Dhabi's brand new newspaper, The National, will hit the streets of the capital. The photo shows a newsroom that looks likes a very pleasant working environment. How I hope, how I very much hope, that this turns out to be an internationalist media project which does not founder on the reefs of vested interests, limited horizons and cultural hyper-sensitivity.
And I hope that many of their reporters are equipped with camcorders and that from the outset the internet is seen as a news delivery platform just as important as the dead-tree channel.
Hopeful, that's me!

I very much doubt that they're going be able to "tell-it-like-it-is" when their parent company, Abu Dhabi Media Company, is owned by the Abu Dhabi Executive Council.
Owned by the government: failed already. :-(
