St. Patrick's Day in Munich

It was, of course, again a pleasant sound, the skirl of the pipes on Munich's Leopoldstrasse as Celtic brotherhood was celebrated by Irish, Scots and a lively smattering of Australians and Canadians with links to the auld sod.

But last year the weather was more clement... rain slick streets and skeletally bare winter trees this year reminded me of childhood in dreekit Edinburgh. The Drum Major tried hard to retain his dignity with his finery concealed under what resembled nothing so much as black bin bags.

Horses brought up the rear of the parade and, since we are in a city where cleanliness if very close to godliness, they were succeeded by these cheerful chappies, shit shovellers with funny hats.
