Labor Day
When I realized that today was the American public holiday which conventionally marks the end of summer and is still the pretext for open-air celebration I was reminded of the movie "Picnic". It came out in 1956, at the time when I had only a single year's experience of the American lifestyle.
Although it was set in Kansas, for me it reflected quite adequately the reality I had come to know in New England, on the banks of the Kennebec river. I liked America... back then.
To my readers in the US of A, happy Labor Day.
