Skype has served me exceeding ly well over the past few years. The chat window permanently open on both our computers is the 'long desk' shared by me and my daughter, bridging the kilometres between Munich and Maastricht.
Of late I have been considering getting the added bells and whistles that a Skype paid subscription would offer.

I hate to think what M$ will do to f*ck Skype up. I use it constantly for video calls and text chats, and sometimes buy credit so I can phone landlines. A very odd deal, this is.
