Berlin, Berlin!

My daughter is currently spending a few days visiting friends with whom she is studying in Maastricht. And their home is Berlin.

In one case 'home' is not far away from where the photo on the left was taken, I believe on New Year's Day 1990. Where this part of the wall stood there is now a new Berlin, one which we could hardly imagine on that amazing winter day when hundreds were chip, chip, chipping at the barrier which had so bitterly divided the German nation.

I'm sure the little baby in red had no idea of the historical import of what we were seeing in 1990. But... she does know that black leather quilted jacket! It has a certain patina now, but it is still after well over twenty years my best defence against the rigours of our winters.

Le plus ca change, le plus c'est le meme chose!
