German National Unity Day 2

The first of the two days of festivities enjoyed fine autumn weather. Ludwigstrasse had been transformed to be come a Ländermeilethe imposing avenue filled with tents and stands permitting each of the German federal states to have a promotional presence. Each boasted of its industry and commerce, each claimed its beer was the finest and each offered the chance to sample regional delicacies.

The music was not exclusively rock 'n' roll! I confess to a weakness for the amazing sound of the Alphorn!

Politicians of all colours were on hand and very accessible. Although I suspect that today both the German chancellor and the federal president will be protected by plenty of security.

I have never apologized for the fact that I find elaborate military parades highly entertaining and very stirring. Munich is not the place for such displays. Balloons and strolling families... a nice way for a nation to celebrate the amazing unification which happened such a very short time ago.
