Carelessness? Perhaps not.

I have previously lamented the fact that when moving from Paris to Munich in 1981, there was no room in the trailer I hired for my beautiful Eames Lounge Chair.

Of course, had the chair remained in my possession, there would have been no room for it in my Munich twenty-five square metres.

A couple of days ago Jessi asked me... out of the blue... what had happened to the Eero Aaarnio 'Pastilli' chair which I acquired during my years in Cologne for the flat I furnished for ex-wife and daughter in the city's Kendenich suburb.

When they moved back to Munich I remember that again there was no room for the chair in my final Cologne residence and as I recall I passed it along to one of my favourite actresses in the series I was producing at the time. I do hope that it is still in her care and that it is much enjoyed by her five-year-old daughter!

The fact that a 'Pastilli' chair now costs around $2,500 is not a matter I care to dwell upon!

Thinking a bit more about the pieces of designer furniture I have owned at one time or another... but subsequently lost... I must admit that I am rather saddened.

On the left is the little flat I had in Bergedorf, just outside Hamburg, in the early seventies. I found authentic Thonet tubular steel pieces at a flea market and found their mid-century modern look very much to my taste.

But again they got left behind when I moved to Paris. But my preference for the style persisted. And in Paris I owned for a very short time a row of theatre or cinema seats by Marcel Breuer, shown below together a Thonet chair very much like my own.

I suppose that temporary ownership must be seen as sufficient. These were pieces which brought me pleasure at the time, and remembering that pleasure is not without its own satisfaction. And even in my tiny Munich flat there is plenty of room for memories.
