Positive thinking

Just more than a hundred yards from my flat is this lovely public square, Hohenzollernplatz. Each winter the low fountain in the middle is covered with a big wooden lid. When this is removed it can be said that spring has finally, officially, arrived in Munich.

More news which makes this old man happy is the announcement that one of the most important squares in the city centre, Karlsplatz-Stachus, is going to be given a new building which has true architectural merit. Munich is not known for bold modern design and this is a welcome exception to the prevailing banality of much of the new urban construction in the Bavarian capital.
