Deliciousness

Jessica and her mother take great pleasure in mocking what they see as my notorious minimalism. How can I possibly enjoy my suppers of crackers, cheese and paté every single evening? How can I stoop so low as to drink industrially produced white wine which comes not in a bottle but in a one litre Tetrapak container? Am I completely lacking in culture? Did I learn nothing about eating well during my decade in Paris?

I exaggerate, of course. My ladies know full well that I love good food. It is simply that at home on my own and ensconced in my reading chair, crackers-and-cheese is simply an efficient and agreeable solution. When I feel sufficiently flush to afford Greyerzer or Stilton then I am a happy man indeed. It is worth noting that Le.Gruyère Premier Cru is the only cheese that has won the title of best cheese of the world at the World Cheese Awards in London four times: in 1992, 2002, 2005 and 2006.

Breaks in the gustatory monotony are, however, most welcome. This is very much the case when I am invited to dinner by said ladies. Yesterday's menu, illustrated in the photo above, was nothing short of stupendous and a fresh and tangy Rosato made a nice change from Chateau Tetrapak.

It could be that I am becoming gradually more 'food aware', particularly over the recent weeks while working on the translation of the app shown below. I found myself drooling quite often!
