Behind Prom Queen stands none other than 20-year Disney head honcho Michael Eisner. WiredNews has an interview with him in which he explains what he hopes for from this venture into Media 2.0 territory.
I guess this is Eisner's way of 'exploding television' as Jeff Jarvis puts it. And on BuzzMachine today Mr. Jarvis states with eminent quotability "Yes, I think it’s possible to start something new with TV and so I’m doing it to learn it." He points out that it costs so little to try, so little that even I can afford it.
But Eisner can afford, well, rather more. Wired asked him "What about cost?"
"A lot cheaper [than TV]. You don't know what the reception is going to be. We've used new actors, new directors, new everything. It's entry level. But it looks professionally done. Like soap operas."
Very like soap operas. PromQueen will be a series of 80 ninety-second episodes. And ninety-seconds is about the duration of a single scene in a soap opera. Which gives me (back in the day a soap opera producer) much to ponder!
