Storytelling 2.0

The Rose d'Or awards at the Montreux international television festival have always compensated the makers of innovative programming.

It surprised many when the organizers opened a category for soap opera and 'light' drama. But there is the possibility of innovative storytelling even within the quasi-industrial workflow strictures of soap production.

This year the prize in this category goes to Con Passionate, a Welsh language production which uses animation and even virtual sets in a way which few soap makers have hitherto risked. Admittedly Con Passionate was 'closed ended', with two series of eight forty-minute episodes.
