The stop-over after the Cannes visit gave me a day to simply enjoy Paris, with no agenda, no imperatives, no plan. I made an early start, woken by the noise of the market stalls being opened in the street in front of the hotel.
But things were already quite lively around Saint-Germain and Saint-Michel...
The costumed cliques of youngsters were first year medical students involved in some form of initiation in which alcohol - even at the early hour - seemed to have a role to play.
They were chatty, friendly and bright... and they were all armed with digital cameras.
Note the bemused expression of the oldie surrounded by kids five decades younger!
