Wit or prophecy?

As a visual jest it inspires a knowing smirk, does it not?

Then, if you think about it, aren't you inevitably going to start thinking about the future of the car industry? How unlikely it is that its future will in any way resemble its past.

The future of the home furnishing industry certainly looked a lot different after Ikea came on the scene.
In this vein I am again obliged to quote Jeff Jarvis...

“We don’t have to reinvent the wheel, do we?” a smart leader in a challenged industry asked me under a hot sun at South by Southwest. Yes, we do, I said. The change we’re seeing is that fundamental. Our response must be equally fundamental."

More of his post here.

Ikea selling automobiles? Perhaps not mighty Volvos, but one day maybe something like the Tata Nano, electrically powered?

Update

Another pertinent quote from Clay Shirky...

“With the old economics destroyed, organizational forms perfected for industrial production have to be replaced with structures optimized for digital data.”
