Number one with a bullet

In the offices of a firm in the hands of the receiver time tends to drag. Some of my young colleagues amused themselves last week by finding out what were the hit music tracks when they were born.

A couple of the guys were less than overjoyed to have been born in the year when YMCA topped the charts. Abother blanched when he learned that in his birth year Modern Talking were massive!

Okay, let's see... Hit Parade 1940...

Fascinating! The first ever hit parade ranking music popularity was issued by Billboard Magazine in July 1940, when I was all of three months old!

And this, it seems, was the first chart topper...
