Police Scotland


As of tomorrow Scotland will have a unified national police force, replacing the eight regional constabularies of now bygone days. 

Of course all the talk is of efficiencies, synergies and so forth and the matter of job losses is glossed over as usual.

I wonder what my great-great-grandfather would have made of it all? He joined the Aberdeen City Police on the 18th of October, 1869 as Constable. The record shows that he was paid one pound per week, that he was 5'11" tall and of swarthy complexion. He lived at 63 College Street, very close to the newly constructed railway station...
