The movie is now ascribed cult status, and it was directed by Edgar G. Ulmer, although it was certainly not the most renowned of his films.
It was shot in Dallas, Texas, in 1960 and I was glad of a few days of paid work as an extra.
There I am, about to be attacked by a predatory female, the resident of an underground city which... the movie poster tells us... will be very common in the then very far-off off year 2024! Not so hard to believe in those days of Cold War anxiety.
Fast forward to 1979... once again I appear on film as an extra, although in France a supernumerary is called a figurant.
This time, however, I played the tall, skinny waiter in the party scene not in order to earn a small fee, but to save the production the expense of hiring what used to be called a 'background artist'... I was as co-producer of Laura Moore anxious not to exceed the allocated budget.
At the time I foundit quite amusing, reflecting on my 'walk-on' role almost twenty years previously.
Today in 2013 I am once again on the books of an agency for film and television extras. No longer can I justify my presence in the background of a scene as simply a favour to the production. Now I'm in it for the money, even if the day rate is a paltry amount!
Oh, the irony! Who knows, maybe I'll be discovered!
