Workplace

As the joke has it: “What do you say to an Arts and Culture graduate? Answer: “Big Mac and fries, please.”

Parents gaze in horror at the statistics, read stories of youngsters with their BA in their back pocket but forced to drive taxis, stack shelves or serve drinks when defeated in their search for that elusive first job.

Imagine, then, the Sandlander’s relieved joy this day!

On the 9th of July there was the news that the thesis which Jessi submitted to complete her three years of studies in Maastricht was graded with an 'A' (taking the American equivalent of a Dutch 7.5).

At the beginning of August she started a minimally remunerated internship at an exciting but well established new media firm here in Munich. The hope is always that an internship will lead to real, honest-to-God properly paid employment.

That hope has been fulfilled. On her first day back in the office after the excitement of the graduation in Maastricht it was confirmed that from November Jessi is on the company’s staff.

She sees it all with admirable equanimity. Her desk is not going to win a prize for neatness, is it? She will sign up only through next July in order to be able then to go after her Masters degree.

You go, girl!
