Ramadan Mubarak

To any readers I may still have in the Sandlands, where this blog started so many years ago, my sincere wishes for a blessed and peaceful Ramadan.

Last evening I found myself chatting about the World Cup at Eiscafé Venezia. I heard it said that next opponents of the German team, Algeria, could take the field weakened by their fasting. Frankly, I am not so sure. Fasting involves concentration and discipline. So does winning a football match, no?

The Guardian has an interesting article about what Ramadan means for women, for whom the Holy Month means a lot of additional hard work. It is well worth reading.
