Over and over again, athletes visualize themselves executing the right moves. This equates to mental rehearsal of the effort they are about to make and to its positive outcome.
I find myself doing much the same, now that emphysema makes every physical effort just that bit harder. Rising from my armchair, going to the kitchenette to refill my glass of wine involves exactly sixteen paces, but leaves me panting for a couple of minutes! Shopping expeditions even in my immediate 'village' call for pauses to catch my breath.
And so I'm wondering whether the performance-enhancing potion to which Maria Sharapova so foolishly resorted might be just what I need!
