Prof. Jeff, now famous also in Portugal, quotes in this post a thinker who has come up with the term Ambient Intimacy for the relationships which blogs and applications like Flickr and Twitter allow us to engage in. I was just thinking about this in a German-language context and came up with Fernintimität, or 'distance intimacy'. On the whole, however, I like 'ambient' better...Interesting to me is that in his article Jeff Jarvis refers to Danah Boyd as one of many academics studying the phenomenon. I've had her as a fixture on my blog roll for a very long time; I hadf thought, as one tends to, that she was my very own clever discovery... But no, ambient intimacy is shockingly promiscuous!
