From December, Australian smokers will be buying their cigarettes in packages like these. The decision by the High Court down under means that there is now case-law precedent when there are initiatives to introduce plain packaging in other countries. 'Big tobacco' will have a hard time arguing against those for whom the health issue is paramount.
I foresee a renaissance of the elegant cigarette case. I wonder if there will be any way of forbidding smokers from continuing to proclaim their preference by buying metal or plastic cases with the forbidden branding?
